Recipe Of Making Misal Pav


-------------------------------------Misal Pav------------------------------------------------ Misal Pav is very famous dish in the entire state of Maharashtra. Misal is very spicy hot rassa and is served with pav (Buns). It is tangy to taste and good to look at dish, which is prepared using Peas or Matki (a type of lentil) and served with a variety of topping.

Moth Beans (Matki)- 1 Cup
Water- 5 Cups
Tamarind- Marble Sized
Red Chili Powder- 1 Tbsp
Goda Masala- 1 Tbsp
Garam Masala- ½ Tbsp
Mustard- 1 Tbsp
Green chili- 2
Haldi- 1/2 Tbsp
Sugar- 1 Tbsp
Potato- 1
Onion- 1
Oil- 2

Tbsp
Salt,to Taste

---------------------------------Misal Pav---------------------------------------------------- Ingredients For Grinding:

Jeera- 1/2 Tbsp
Peppercorns- 1/2 Tbsp
Fennel- 1/2 Tbsp
Cloves- 2
Daniya- 1 Tbsp
Hing- 1/2 Tbsp
Red Chili- 5
Ginger- 1.5 Inch
Onions- 2
Tomatoes- 2
Garlic- 2 Cloves
Coconut(Fresh or Copra)- 3 Tbsp (Grated)

Ingredients For Garnishing:

Farsan- 1 Cup
Chiwda - 1 Cup
Sev - 1 Cup
Pav- 2 Packs
Lemon- 2
Onion- 2 (Finely chopped)
Coriander- 1/2 Cup (Finely Chopped)
Yoghurt (Optional) - 1 Cup

Method of Preparation of Misal Pav:

First of all soak matki in water for 6 hrs and then drain the water. Keep it for 24 hrs to form sprouts of 1-1.5 inches and sprinkle water frequently.
Take tamarind & soak it in 1/2 cup water and boil it to extract the pulp.
Heat 1 tbsp oil and roast the ingredients given for grinding with green chili. Remember to chop the vegetables, ginger and chili before roasting them. After roasting, grind them to a smooth paste. Peel the skin of potato & cut it into small cubes.
Place matki in a cooker and place

potato in a separate container with a lid above matki and steam both in a cooker. After that, mash the potato well.
Heat oil in a wok or kadai & splutter mustard seeds. Add sugar & then add onion, sauté all of them till light brown.
In this mixture add red chili powder, grounded paste & fry these all ingredients till oil comes on their sides. Turn wise add sprouts, mashed potato, goda masala, garam masala, tamarind extract or pulp, water and salt.
Cook it on medium flame. When it boils well and water level will reduce and it will become thick. It should be thick like pav bhaji, when the rassa consistency is good enough switch off the gas.
Take a large bowl and transfer misal rassa to it, put 1 tbsp each of farsan, chiwda, sev and chopped onion, coriander leaves, lemon wedge. You can now serve missal rassa with pav which makes it missal pav. Misal pav is ready to eat. It should be spicy enough to combat with pav. But if u wants to reduce the spiciness, u can add yoghurt while serving. Misal Pav cabe breakin the evening.
